Tell me something new

Unthink are now on YouTube!

This is a pretty exciting exclusive for you newsletter readers - it’s the first time we’re sharing this.

We wanted to create a space where all our videos of Learning Experiences can be easily viewed, plus we thought it was a cool way to take you behind the scenes and show you who we are and what we do.

MrBeast won’t be too concerned about Unthink just yet but let us know what you think…

Dirt track mindset

We came across this story of Zappos recently. They fostered a culture of innovation and productivity with radical policies that ultimately led to exceptional customer service and a large buy-out. We’ll get to that bit.

Firstly, Zappos offered new hires $2,000 to quit. It was called “The Offer”.

The initiative offered new employees who decided they were unhappy a $2,000 bonus to quit following a four-week training period.

The practice was designed to weed out those who wouldn't be as committed to and passionate about their work, thereby bolstering overall happiness in the company's workforce.

Secondly, they were ruthless with their hiring process.

And this was not a remote Zoom interview process. This was a fly-you-out to HQ, a tour of the office and an in-person process.

They also get feedback from the drivers that drove candidates to and from the airport.

Crushed the interview but were rude to the driver?
Out.

Had extensive experience but didn’t say please or thank you?
Out.

Zappos is filtering for two things:

1. People who want to be part of Zappos’ culture
2. People who cared about others, regardless of the situation

The result?

It was bought by Amazon for $1.2bn.
